Join your Local Mammal Group

Local mammal groups are created and run by people from various backgrounds and levels of experience, who work together with a shared enthusiasm to study and conserve their local mammal populations, share expertise and raise awareness. They form a national network of local volunteers with the following aims:

  •     To bring together people with a shared interest in mammals
  •     To raise awareness of mammals and threats they face at informative talks and fun events
  •     To survey and monitor mammals to identify population changes, distribution and abundance
  •     To provide invaluable local expertise to help threatened species in the area
  •     To organise training in essential field skills in mammal identification and survey methods
  •     To support the work of The Mammal Society, add to campaigns and encourage involvement.

Can't find a group near you? You could set one up. All you need is enthusiasm and time. See our Guidance for Setting Up a Local Mammal Group, or email our Local Groups Liaison and Staffordshire Mammal Group Chair Derek Crawley, at derek.crawley@staffordshiremammalgroup.org.uk for advice.
